Black March — IMHO, counterproductive
OK, well, am I the only one who thinks that the Black March initiative may not be such a good idea — that it may even, in fact, be counterproductive? Am I the only one who can visualize the headlines at the end of March:
Look at the record-breaking losses we suffered! Look at all the people boycotting our products — and do you really, really believe that none of them actually pirated our movies and songs during this month? Come on, of course piracy was on an unprecedented rise during the month of March! Look at us suffer! Pity us! Go after those criminals!
Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong, but this is the way I fear things will go :(

I believe trying to restraint consumption is a good thing. When we had our first kid, I literally had no time and opportunities to watch movies, so I stopped that for a couple of months. When I could do that again (kid growing up and being more independent), I realized movies weren't fun anymore. It's like I had awakened from some state of mind control. I no longer have to watch every FX-rich and story-poor turd that comes my way. I hardly watch movies anymore.
I hope Black March brings similar change to many people. One thing I am not sure about is if a month is long enough to make people realize they don't need to be Hollywood slaves anymore. We may need a Black April too. :-)
